AAC Creative Lab: Designing Visual Teaching Aids with Pictograms

In this hands-on workshop, teachers turn the AAC-Inclusion Pictogram Collection into practical teaching materials. Participants design communication boards, visual schedules, choice boards, picture instructions and simple storybooks. These are adapted to the needs of students with complex communication needs. Working in small groups, they choose core vocabulary, arrange symbols consistently and combine pictograms with photos and real objects. Every material is created for real use in lessons, routines and play, and then tested in class. The workshop promotes inclusive, accessible learning, builds teachers’ practical AAC skills and helps create a shared bank of resources for partner schools across Europe.
