Module III for Teachers: Practical AAC Strategies
This module shows teachers how to bring AAC into everyday classroom life. It covers practical visual supports:
- daily schedules and visual timers
- visual marking of classroom space
- picture instructions and a volume scale
- reinforcers, motivators and a map of alternative consequences
- choice, participation, contextual and thematic boards for lessons and play
Teachers also learn participatory reading, a method that lets students with complex communication needs take an active part in shared reading. The final part sets out criteria for effective AAC interventions at school and at home. These include starting from the student’s interests, keeping strategies consistent, recording progress and working closely with families.
