Module V for Teachers: Collaborative Approaches in AAC
This module shows that AAC works best as a team effort. Teachers learn who belongs in the collaborative AAC team and what role each person plays. The AAC user is at the centre, working with families, teachers, therapists, support staff and classmates. The module covers family-centred practice, regular home–school contact and shared vocabulary. Teachers learn to set goals that are functional and measurable, train communication partners in aided language modelling and solve problems together. They also learn to write an Individual Communication Support Plan and build inclusive classrooms. Reflection questions and a group activity, a Collaborative AAC Action Plan, help teachers apply what they have learned.
